1910 Medical and Dental Exams

  • Home visit by School Nurse as the neighbours look on

In 1910, the Toronto Board of Education wisely decided to employ a Superintendent of Nurses, Miss Lina L. Rogers, R.N. to organize a system of school visitation and health inspections. Miss Rogers hired 4 assistants and visited 11 schools regularly in that first year. Their mandate was to instruct the children on how to better care for their bodies and to teach the parents of the need for enhancing the family’s health at home.
