    Separate School Boards

The School Act of 1850 also allowed for the establishment of separate school boards. These boards were formed mainly to accommodate Roman Catholic or Protestant minorities, however, some separate school boards existed for black children also. These were located throughout the province but primarily in southwestern Ontario.
