    In the yard you stood perfectly still.  When the bell rang, you couldn't talk.  At the second bell you marched into a tune on th PA: "Colonel Bogey's March".  I remember because on my first day I didn't know enough to stand still or not to talk and was told if you got caught three times, you got the strap; that system pretty well lasted until we got to grade eight.
